The Dictionary Project was adopted by the Rotary Club of Trumbull in an effort to support students in their schoolwork and homework. The dictionary remains an essential tool within a quality education.
Rotary Club of Trumbull donated a dictionary to every third grade student in Trumbull, as well as their third grade teachers. Every public and private school in Trumbull was involved – in all, 10 schools.
v Public Schools:
o Tashua School
o Middlebrook Elementary School
o Jane Ryan Elementary School
o Frenchtown Elementary School
o Daniels Farm Elementary School
o Booth Hill Elementary School
v Private Schools:
o Christian Heritage School
o St. Catherine of Siena School
o St. Theresa School
v Special Needs School: Cooperative Educational Services (CES)
A total of 700 dictionaries were bought and donated by the Rotary Club of Trumbull (total number of students and teachers: 672)
Up to 25 Rotarians volunteered to present and handout the dictionaries to each third grader. A few words were given to describe some of the projects that the Rotary Club is involved in and then the dictionaries were passed out. The actual process in passing the books out varied. In some school, Rotarians went to each third grade class and passed out the dictionaries, while in others all the third graders were assembled and then the books were passed out.
The plan is to run the Dictionary Project again for 2006, involving all the third graders in the town of Trumbull.
