   District 7980 Managed Grants

Through District Managed Grants, District 7980 matches contributions raised by Rotary clubs for international and local humanitarian projects. Clubs wishing to conduct an International Project should first consider a Matching Grant as Matching Grants provide more leverage with additional funds from The Rotary Foundation. Therefore District 7980 will consider District Managed Grants for International Projects only when the project does not meet the criteria of a Matching Grant.

The District provides a 1:1 match for club contributions up to a maximum grant of $3,000.

Frequently asked questions

Q: What is the maximum District Managed Grant award?
A: $3,000

A: No. The maximum of $3,000 is for the project without regard to the number of clubs participating

Q: Can we use a District Managed Grant to fund existing projects?
A: District Managed Grant projects must be NEW projects.

Q: Can we use a District Managed Grant for an International Project?
A: Yes, but only if the project cannot be configured so as to qualify for a Rotary Matching Grant.

Q: Could we use a District Managed Grant to fund a project in a country where there are no Rotary Clubs?
A: Yes.

Q: Can we use a District Managed Grant for construction of any kind?
A: No.

Q: Can a District Managed Grant be used for Rotarian travel expenses to the project country?
A: No

Q: Can we use a District Managed Grant for travel expenses, salaries, gratuities, or personnel costs of any kind?
A: No.

Q: What are the reporting requirements for a District Managed Grant?
A:  Interim reports are due every six months following receipt of the grant check from the district. The final report is due within two months of project completion; but no later than July 1 following receipt of the grant check. Both the Interim and Final Reports use the same form.

Q: Is there any limit to the number District Managed Grants a club can get?
A: No limit, except that a club can get only one each year.

Q: What are the consequences of filing project reports late – or not at all?
A:

·         The major consequence is that The Rotary Foundation will not issue funds to District 7980 for projects in following years until the reporting is completed and accepted. Therefore other District Clubs will not be able to do their worthy projects.

·         The District Grants Subcommittee will not approve any grant, including Matching or Service, for a Club who is or has recently been delinquent on reporting.

·         The club will have to reimburse the District for the full amount of the grant.

·         The District Governor may request that the club be suspended from membership in Rotary.

Q: What if the project costs less than projected?
A: The club will reimburse to the District the full amount of the shortfall up to the total amount of the grant. Only after the grant has been fully paid back can the club keep any of the shortfall for themselves.
