The
Rotary Club of Trumbull May 25
2001 meeting President
Joe Ruospo called the meeting to
order and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Jack Quinlan said the invocation. Jim Lang led us in singing “America”. Attendance: 36 members of 57 attended. Marjorie Anctil, Ray Baldwin, Jr.,

Carlino, Barry Diamond, David Dunn, Lynn Fontana, Tony Gagliardi, Keith Gatling,

Dana Lonergan, John Makar, Ian McMillan, Preston Merritt, Ted Merritt, Frank
Metrusky, Jack Quinlan, Michael Redgate, John Rosati, Joe Ruospo, Dale
Seymour, Rose Marie Spatafore, Paul Squillace, Dick Stein, George Voynick, Dave

Murray, a guest of Gene Leone, at his fourth meeting. Dawn Dalrymple, a guest of Ron
Lesko, attending her third meeting. Linda Massoni, a guest of Frank
Metrusky, attending her second
meeting. Announcements: Michael Redgate announced that volunteers were needed to present Rotary Club awards at
the Trumbull Middle Schools. Enough Rotarian immediately volunteered to present
all of the awards. Thank you for your instant commitment. Joe Ruospo
announced that the scholarship committee has selected eight high school students
to receive awards of $1,000.00 each. The winners have been invited to attend one
of our meetings. Joe also announced that “Trumbull Rotary” golf shirts have
arrived. Two styles are available. Send your check ($25.00) for your shirt to Len Germano. Len Germano
announced that Tony Gagliardi will be
taking pictures of all members for our new membership book. Tony will be
available 15 minutes before and after each meeting for the next three weeks.
Tony promises to be able to “young up” your picture, and has ordered a large
case of air brushes to accomplish that daunting task. Joe Ruospo
and Len Germano recently attended a recognition ceremony at the
Bridgeport Rotary Club for our club and others in the area that contributed food
for the ABCD program. Joe commented that it was great to be able to participate
with our neighboring clubs on such a worthwhile program. Ted Merritt
encouraged everyone to attend the next Board Meeting on June 13th.
Ted also encouraged all members to check our club website (www.TrumbullRotary.org)
to view our club goals and information. Ted has access to “thin clad”
computers for $100.00 for those members who do not have access to the internet.
Ted reminded us that all members of the club have a role in ensuring our
club’s success as we move forward. Ted also commented that the Rotary
International Foundation needs increased funding because of all of the matching
grant programs that are operational. Jim Lang,
speaking as our Assistant District Governor, spoke about the necessity for all
members to try and contribute to the Rotary International Foundation. Jim gave a
happy dollar because he presented a Ruby pin to a Paul Harris fellow at the
Milford club last week. The Ruby pin signified a total contribution of $7,000.00
by the Rotarian. Jim also gave a happy dollar for our club’s contribution for
1999-2000 of $7,900.00, which represented an average donation of $152.00 per
member. This year, only 35 members are sustaining members. Jim asked everyone to
try and contribute to fund the many Rotary worldwide projects. Jim promised to
match the next three $100.00 contributions that are made between now and June 15th.
Joe Ruospo said that our club will
match the first $100.00 contribution from any first time donor. Happy/sad
Dollars: Phil Lane gave a happy and a sad dollar. The sad dollar was for Red Sox pitcher
Pedro Martinez who pitched a great game, but still lost to the World Champion
Yankees. The happy dollar was for the good weather at last Sunday’s graduation
ceremony at Fairfield and Sacred Heart Universities. Dana Lonergan gave a happy five dollars for his wife Sherri who is
home after successful surgery. Frank
Metrusky gave a happy dollar and a sad dollar for the same reason---He
recently received more front-page newspaper coverage than Trumbull politicians
Anne Moore, Elaine Hammers and Ray
Baldwin. Dale Seymour gave a
happy five dollars for all of our veterans on this Memorial Day weekend. Ted Merritt gave a happy dollar for the Trumbull High School
volleyball team who won the FCIAC Championship. Ron
Lesko gave a happy two dollars for the New York Yankees and for telling a
Boston Red Sox joke (What has 18 legs and dies in September?). Lynn Fontana
gave a happy and a sad dollar for Senior Skip Day, and for the lack of sunshine
for those happy students. Kevin Murray gave a happy dollar for his daughter’s
first birthday on Sunday May 27th, and a sad dollar for the rain
prediction for all weekend. Birthdays
and Anniversaries: John Bogannam
and Dana Lonergan were serenaded for
their birthdays. New Members: Steve Hodson was
inducted as a new member by Michael
Redgate. New membership applications have been received from Dawn Dalrymple
and Kevin Murray. The membership committee has approved their applications, and
welcomes any comments from our current members. Raffle: Jayne Bolton
and Barry Diamond drew for $208.00, with no winner selected.
