The Rotary Club of Trumbull President-elect Mike Redgate called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag in the absence of President Ted Merritt. Jack Quinlan said the invocation. Bill Zeidenberg led us in singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”. Attendance: 26 members of 60 attended. Joseph Allen, Ray Baldwin, Jr., Greg Bivona, John Bogannam, Jayne Bolton, Willie Costello, Joan Farley, Len Germano, Tom Heaney, Steve Hodson, Thelma Hoyt, Steve Jakab, Jim Lang, Ron Lesko, John Makar, Ian McMillan, Kevin Murray, Jack Quinlan, Mike Rappa, Michael Redgate, Joe Ruospo, Dale Seymour, Rose Marie Spatafore, Paul Squillace, Dick Stein, George Voynick, Bill Zeidenberg. Guests: Jim Bardon, a guest of Tom Heaney. Andrew McMillan, son of Ian McMillan and his wife Jean. Announcements:. Mike Redgate announced that our old bell has been mounted to a new wooden stand. The stand has the names of all of our chapter’s former President’s engraved on it. Speaking of our former Presidents, all of them were honored at our installation dinner and posed for a group picture. All were given a Rotary hat monogrammed with their names and years of service as President. Ron Lesko was given his at our Friday morning meeting. Mike Redgate announced that Ted Merritt wants to resume the practice of fining members who do not wear their Rotary pin, so you have been warned! Mike offered a free pin to anyone who needs one. Photographs taken at the Installation Dinner were passed around to each member in attendance, with a duplicate available, if you would like a copy of yours. Happy/sad Dollars: Joe Ruospo gave a happy five dollars for the excellent installation dinner made possible by the efforts of Jayne Bolton and Len Germano. Mike Redgate gave a happy dollar for he and Preston Merritt being honored as Paul Harris Fellows at the dinner. Mike also stated that his younger brother, who actually looks younger than Mike, passed his Mortuary Service exam, which will be a big help to Mike’s business. Jim Lang gave a happy five dollars. Jim has had some successful throat surgery, is praying for his mother who is having a medical procedure, and for the in-progress arrangements for our Exchange Student to arrive from Mexico in August. Len Germano gave a happy dollar to announce that he still has a dozen Trumbull Rotary golf shirts left for sale at $25.00 each. Mike Rappa gave a happy dollar for the great Installation Dinner and for our attractive sign at the corner of Daniels Farm and Stroebel Roads. Bill Zeidenberg gave ten dollars. One dollar was for his sad BMW that has an air conditioning part on back-order during the summertime. The other nine were happy dollars for our planting and sign project now complete thanks to Joe Ruospo, Mike Rappa and Len Germano. Bill was the Chairman of that committee and marveled at Joe Ruospo’s speed wielding a shovel. Joe says he is even faster with the shovel at night. Ian McMillan gave a sad dollar because his car was stolen this morning. Ian speculated it may have been the same person who has stolen political campaign signs from his lawn last fall. Birthdays and Anniversaries: The club celebrated Jayne Bolton’s 11 year anniversary as a club member, Thelma Hoyt’s birthday, and Dale and Patti Seymour’s 10th wedding anniversary. Program: Our guest speaker from the Trumbull Historical Society was re-scheduled to next week, so there was no program speaker. Instead, Jim Lang spoke about several Rotary topics. We are still collecting books for the Literacy program in Haiti, if you would care to donate. Thousands of books are being stored at Mike Rappa’s business. Jim also discussed his recent volunteer trip to Jeremy, Haiti. Jim said that Rick King, our new Rotary International Chairman, wants each club to induct one new member each month, with a net gain of 5 at the end of the year. Jim said that several people he personally sponsored into Rotary told him it was the greatest thing he could have done for them. Committee Reports: Mike Rappa needs some members to help with our club picnic and the Night at the Movies event. It is a great chance for you new members to get involved and have some fun. This project is not a fund raiser, but a community enhancement event. This year we will have a new sound system, a family style movie, and still charge $5.00 per car for attendees. George Voynick reported that our club is joining forces with Rotary Clubs from Bridgeport, Monroe, Stratford and Fairfield to provide twelve thousand dollars to renovate a classroom at Bridgeport’s Discovery Museum. The plans are proceeding well. Raffle: Kevin Murray and Greg Bivona drew for $306.00, with no winner selected.
