Announcements:
Bill Zeidenberg announced that he and Jackie Carlino are sponsoring a name-a-thon contest to select a name for the bike-a-thon to be held on June 9, 2002. This event will be coordinated with members of the Bridgeport Sound Cyclists Club. Bill and Jackie are the leaders for this function, and are also looking for more committee members. If you have ever been interested in “pedaling you’re a.. around town”, you can now join with Bill and Jackie, and get away with doing it! Mike Redgate announced that the American Red Cross is sponsoring a blood drive on Monday January 21, 2002 from 1:30PM to 5:00PM at Grace Episcopal Church on Main Street in Trumbull. Mike also announced that our Celebrity Breakfast raised almost $8,000.00. Fantastic! Fellow Rotarian Guy DeFeo suffered a mild heart attack while bowling on 1/8/02. He has had two stents inserted, is recovering at home, and sends his regards. He feels good and is able to go out for short trips. Guy credits immediately taking an aspirin and going to the hospital, with preventing serious heart damage. He’ll be attending another Rotary meeting soon.
New Member Induction:
Mike Redgate, Joe Ruospo and sponsor Steve Taylor introduced and inducted our newest member, Steve Lupien. Steve is proud to be a graduate of Trumbull High School, where he met and married his high school sweetheart Lisa. Steve is a Vice-President and General Manager of a division of Land O’ Lakes specialty foods. Welcome to our club! Jim Lang then started a new tradition at our club of greeting all new members with a standing ovation.
Student of the Month:
Rose Mary Seamon, Principal of Hillcrest Middle School, introduced our Student of the Month, Stephanie Rua. Mary mentioned all of Stephanie’s fine work, including peer counseling, student council, the Junior Honor Society and volunteering at St. Joseph’s Manor. Stephanie thanked our club, said she is proud of her volunteer work and extra curricular activity, and wants to be a school guidance counselor.
Program:
Henry, the owner of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio located in the White Plains Road Shopping Center, introduced our club to a Tango, performed between the tables to recorded music, with the assistance of a captivating dance partner. Among other things, Henry said: 1. Each club member in attendance was given a gift certificate for a free introductory dance lesson. 2. Dancing enables people to hold one another close and enjoy another person's company, as well as the music. 3. Once learned, dancing should be practiced, but can be enjoyed for the rest of your life. 4. Dancing is much more popular in Europe, where lessons start at a young age. Most of the teachers at the Fred Astaire studio are European. 5. Dancing helps posture, confidence, and self-esteem. 6. There are group lessons, individual lessons, and a Friday night dance party each week. 7. Hours of operation are from 1:30PM to 10:30PM.
Bill Zeidenberg said that he and daughter Stephanie took private lessons at the Fred Astaire Studio to be able to perform a unique Father-Daughter dance at Stephanie’s Bat Mitzvah.
Raffle: Greg Bivona and Bob Schwartz drew for $467.00, with no winning card selected.
